What are Gnats?
A gnat is one of the several flying insects, biting and non-biting. It may look tiny but what you see at your house or garden is a full-grown adult gnat. It belongs to Anisopodidae, Mycetophilidae, and Sciarida families of flies. Gnats are usually found in and around houses, and are also called fruit fliesThe one you find near your yard or in the house is the non-biting, but all these information and introduction won’t help to get rid of gnats but the techniques given below will do.
#1 – Cider Vinegar
This is one of the most common and you can even perform it at your home with very few things. Take a bowl; add one or half cup of water, 4 to 6 drops of dish wash liquid soap, 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Make a mixture of this all ingredients and stir them until sugar completely dissolves and other ingredients are blended to mix well. This works like a meat to trap lion, gnats will be attracted to this but once they dip in it, they will be trapped in the mixture of this.
#2- Fly Paper
This is an old-school trick that can work very effectively. This will also help to get rid of other flies and bugs. What you have to do is just hang the sticky paper wherever you see gnats and then wait for them to sit on it get stuck on it. Simply stick these rectangle transparent sheets to the windowpane, and then take off the protective paper to expose the adhesive which is there to trap bugs.
#3 – Candle Trap
This simple trick will work both inside and outside and especially at night. Just place a tall tapered candle into the candlestick then set the candlestick in the shallow pan (pan should be filled with water). Now light the candle and turn all the lights off. All the gnats and bugs attracted to the flame. Gnats will flock into the flame of candle and bugs shall fall into the water and drown.
#4 – Rotted Fruit
What could be the best way to trap fruit flies other than fruits? Cut and make several pieces of overripe and rotten fruits. Place them in a bowl, cover the bowl with transparent plastic wrap and tie it with rubber band or tape. Then make some holes in with toothpick, needle, or by pen. So when gnats will be attracted by the scent of rotten fruits, they will get into the bowl, once they enter they won’t be able to get out of that bowl. So this way you can take them out of your house and can get rid of gnats.
#5 – Wine Trap
This is a similar trick to cider vinegar trap technique. Here, you can use the stale wine, what you have to do is pour it in a bowl, add 6 to 8 drops of dish wash liquid shop and place the bowl in open. This mixture will attract the gnats and they will be trapped in the bowl. For heavy gnat infestation, you can set out some wine traps with some cider vinegar traps.
So all of these tricks are home remedies to get rid of gnats. You don’t need any specific knowledge or any particular chemical solution for it. So follow any of these techniques to get rid of gnats.
